Fond holiday memories!
Here I am at age 3 on Christmas morn.  Santa was very good to me!

Happy Anniversary!

Time Flies When You’re Having Fun

It’s hard to believe but it’s been a year since we re-branded and re-launched our company as UpShoot.   We would like to take this opportunity to say ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has supported us.

On behalf of me and my parents, may the true gift of this holiday season be yours – peace, hope and love. We pray the new year is filled with good health, happiness and prosperity for all!

Decorating the Holidays Naturally

Holiday Wreath on UpShoot Office Door

This holiday season we decorated our purple UpShoot entrance with a home-made evergreen wreath. Greens from three LCN Selections plants were used to create this natural beauty.

Garden center personnel can cross promote these plants as true ‘multi-taskers’; great plants in the landscape that also serve a decorative function!

Mr. Bowling Ball® Globe Arborvitae
Thuja occidentalis ‘Bobazam’

No maintenance evergreen forms a small, perfect ball. Tolerates East Coast heavy snow loads.

Santa’s Delight® Variegated Holly
Ilex x ‘Sadezam’

New growth is raspberry red. Foliage turns hues of pink and red in fall. Bright red berries are a great source of food for birds during winter.

Bobbee™ Compact Bayberry
Myrica pensylvanica ‘Bobzam’

Familiar holiday scent as colonists made candles from fruit. Selected native sports wavier, glossier and larger foliage than species.

Holiday Goodies

I’ve always loved the Christmas holidays!

Since 2007, I’ve been baking, shipping and sharing home-made goodies to green industry associates and licensed grower customers. This year will be no exception.

I’m happy to share my Mom’s famous Buckeye Balls recipe (or as my sons call them “Buck Eyeballs”). Enjoy!

Buckeye Balls Recipe
  • 1 12 ounce jar of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 lb. plus 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 2 sticks softened butter
Mix ingredients together with your hands.

Form into little balls.
Insert a toothpick in the top.

Slightly freeze (helps toothpick stay).

Dip balls into meltedMerckens milk chocolate wafers.
Leave a small circle around toothpick uncoated to see the peanut butter center.

Roll the toothpick between your fingers to get off excess chocolate.

Put on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Remove toothpick.

Place in a cool area to firm up.

Store in a tin or covered container in a cool area.

Rice's nursery & landscaping
Bobbee is one tough plant!  If you have a tough (wet or dry, salt spray) site in the residential or commercial landscape, this is the plant for you.

I like the compact nature of this shrub. Yes, it gets 6′ tall, but it’s not leggy looking.

I like trees and shrubs that work in a retail environment along with commercial and residential landscape projects, and this shrub does just that.

We sell Bobbee in our garden center and use it on our landscapes that we design. I recommend Bobbee for tough landscape sites!”
