UpShoot entered LCN Selections Golden Candle into the FarWest tradeshow New Varieties Showcase. Golden Candle is an upright, columnar Golden Rain Tree which fits perfectly in the tightest of spaces.

Koelreuteria paniculata ‘Gocanzam’

Kolreuteria panciulata was named the 2011 Urban Tree of the Year by the Society of Municipal Arborists. Golden Candle is a slender version which can take concrete and street heat. A drought tolerant tree, it performs equally well in a wide range of soils.

Dick Bocci, Customers Service Manager of Carlton Plants in Dayton, Oregon says, “One of the most new and exciting plant varieties is Golden Candle™. Its growth habit will fit in most urban settings. After seeing Golden Candle™, our customers can’t wait to get it into their offerings.”

Tips and Tricks

At the FarWest show we had a challenging location. We were down at the very end of the show floor.
We attracted visitors to our booth by creating a fun, consistent look and feel from a branding perspective.

Dawn Hummel created customized UpShoot pot wraps, tags, flyers and posters.
Tradeshows are a perfect time to test new designs and capture feedback from highly targeted demographic groups.

Dawn worked closely with Jim Hatfield, owner of Marketing and Technical Materials.
MTM provides customizable tags, pot wraps and media for the nursery industry.

To further engage passerbys, she added twinkle lights to Punus ‘Snow Fountains’ triple espaliered tree from Bountiful Farms.
Dawn enlisted Mary-Kate Mackey to help dress theWeeping Extraordinaire Double Flowering Cherrywith pink carnations to simulate the tree in full bloom.

At the OAN member breakfast Saturday meeting, Jeff Stone reported over 6,000 qualified visitors attended Thursday and Friday, not including Saturday. We had a great show.

Our Hippie
Tradeshow Helper

Last month I introduced you to Dawn Hummel, our marketing guru.
I would like you to meet my youngest son, Robert Pettorini.

I lovingly refer to Robert as my ‘hippie child’ but he supports UpShoot with anything and everything. He iced the booth plants, helped with set-up and tear down and manned the booth as I made the rounds at the tradeshow.

Robert is the main reason our Mary Elizabeth Gardenabsolutely rocks this summer! Under the guidance of his grandfather Jim Zampini, he whipped the Mary Elizabeth Garden back into shape.

Visitors can enjoy seeing the plants UpShoot represents in a natural landscape setting. The garden is one of our test areas for LCN Selections plants. It also features selections from:

Aris Horticultural

Robert heads back toLakeland Community College to continue his Business Major next month after assisting us at the Farwest Show last week.
