July 11 – 15, 2015

Once again the GWA Association Outreach Task Force is planning on multiple events to be held during AmericanHort’s Cultivate’15 event, July 11-15, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio.

We will have a GWA booth on the trade show floor to educate growers, retailers, breeders and horticulture companies on the value a garden communicator can bring to their business.

There are plans for a Region III Connect meeting and an educational session hosted and moderated by GWA members.

Because of our partnership with AmericanHort, GWA members will receive complimentary full registration to Cultivate’15, a $295 value!

We encourage you to attend to see first-hand the national and international commercial side of horticulture in:

  • Annuals
  • Perennials
  • Shrubs
  • Vegetables
  • Garden Products & more!

Also a mini-version of the trade show banner was duplicated as a new one page tradeshow flyer that can be framed and easily used in your own trade show booth!

Both are available for download off the Member Area>Committee>Outreachpage on GWA website.

Nordic® Inkberry

The Perfect Holiday Shrub to Write About!

Nordic® Inkberry
Ilex glabra ‘Chamzin’

Sparkling evergreen foliage on a small, rounded shrub. It takes shearing well and makes a perfect, low-growing hedge.

Note: This is an improved selection from the indigenous Ilex glabra.

Zone: 3
Mature Size:
3 – 4″ h x
3 – 4″ w

Nordic® Inkberry

Don’t Just Take Our Word For It!

“Ilex glabra, a small-leaved evergreen member of the holly family, is another great foundation and hedging plant, almost indistinguishable in appearance from the non-indigenous, but more commonly planted Japanese holly and common boxwood.”

“Inkberry takes pruning very well and afterward continues to maintain its shape for long periods. Readily available in most nurseries, Inkberry is becoming a popular sell-out.”

Carolyn Summers
Carolyn Summers

Excerpt from ‘Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East‘, Rutgers University Press

If writers are looking for ‘nativars’ that are tough and proven in East Coast landscapes, Carol’s book Designing Gardens with Flora of the American East is a great reference tool for marketing content, social media posts and talks where the public is hungry for information on east coast natives.

Desinging Gardens with Flora of the American East

Carolyn Summers deftly explains the effects that gardeners have when choosing plants and how they impact indigenous birds, bugs, moth and butterfly populations.
