New Service for Garden Writers

At a recent GWA event, I heard an attendee comment;

“You know, writing a book is like birthing a baby. Just because it takes nine months to birth, doesn’t mean you’re done nurturing it. Now the real work begins – promoting it.

I just wanted to write a book.

At the end of the day spent in front of the computer banging out words to fill the pages, have you thought of how or where you’re planning on marketing your book?

We are proud to announce a new service UpShoot is offering exclusively to assist Garden Writers with marketing their publications.

Since UpShoot is already linked into the horticulture world of marketing and publishing, this is a natural extension of what we already do to promote new plant introductions.

Case Study: The Nonstop Garden

UpShoot has been promoting Stephanie Cohen and Jennifer Benner’s The Nonstop Garden book published in 2010
by Timber Press.

The authors recently measured their Amazon book numbers. They have steadily risen since UpShoot started promoting their book in only five months’ time.

Stephanie Cohen, Co-Author

Stephanie Cohen“For some time I have been looking for someone to help me promote my projects. I was truly lucky in finding “UpShoot’ run by two bright, energetic, and lively ladies in our green industry!!” Stephanie Cohen said enthusiastically.

“They have great skills and real social media depth that I lack. I feel honored to be working with them as they make me feel like a friend and not just another client. They are the fantastic and I certainly rate two thumbs up for UpShoot.”

Jennifer Benner, Co-Author

Jennifer Benner“In today’s world, you’ll find many marketers without a specialty—selling any old widget. Not UpShoot, they talk the talk and walk the walk.” commented Jennifer Benner.

“True horticulture professionals through and through. They know the industry and how to spread the word about great products, creatively and with integrity.”

Gingerbread™ Paperbark Maple

The Perfect Holiday Tree to Write About!

Gingerbread™Paperbark Maple

Gingerbread Paperbark Maple is my favorite small landscape tree!

Bred by famed plantsman Pete Girard (think Girard Azaleas), he gave it to my father Jim and asked us to please promote it.

Its branching habit provides dappled sunshine which is just perfect for placing a hammock under and enjoying a summer day.  It has vertical, not horizontal, peeling bark like its parent, providing winter interest.

It also matches Pantone’s Spring 2013 Fashion Color TrendsPantone Poppy Red 17-1664.

Gingerbread™ Paperbark Maple

Don’t Just Take Our Word For It!

“Although winter is primarily the time of year to showcase structure in the garden, this does not mean it needs to be devoid of color.”

“Evergreens, colorful woody stems, trees such as Gingerbread™ Paperbark Maple Acer griseum x nikoense ‘Ginzam’, ornamental berries and the remnants of dry grasses and seed heads all partner together to chase away the winter blues.”

The Nonstop Garden

“Flowers are not totally out of the questions, either. Some woody plants, late-winter bulbs and cool-season annuals (for more temperate climates) also strut their floral stuff in sunny spots this time of year.”
– Quote from Stephanie Cohen and Jennifer Benner The Non-Stop Garden book
